KANSAS CITY, Mo., February 1, 2006 - Ecotone Publishing LLC, the first exclusive green architecture and design book publisher, recently launched a new title, Green Dollhouse, Creating a Doll’s Eye View of a Healthier World (ISBN: 0—9749033-3-7), with contributions from designers and writers all over the United States. The first of its kind, this beautiful softcover book contains photos of winning green dollhouse designs from the 2005 Green Dollhouse Project competition, a national contest sponsored by Sustainable San Mateo County in northern California.
“Although energy efficiency, water conservation, the use of nontoxic building materials and other sustainable practices are gradually making inroads into mainstream home building, many people still think of green building as a specialty subject that isn’t applicable everywhere,” said Jason F. McLennan, president of Ecotone. “The Green Dollhouse book will help change that perception by showing children and adults how we can all take action to make our homes healthier and more sustainable.”
The book contains photos of carefully designed dollhouses along with narratives by green building experts. Each dollhouse depicts an actual scale-model home designed for active play that incorporate sustainable design features. The dollhouses successfully convey green building concepts including energy efficiency, renewable energy generation, passive solar design, environmentally preferable materials, and much more. Several how-to chapters encourage others to build their own Green Dollhouse.
